Corporal punishment is heavily linked to negative outcomes, both in mental illness and in impulsive behaviors. In fact, children who are spanked or physically punished are nearly twice as likely to develop alcohol addiction and drug abuse issues.

A study at McMaster University in Canada found that spanking and slapping children is linked to increased rates of anxiety disorders, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, anti-social behavior, and even depression to some degree.

Fortunately, there is an alternative. Peaceful parenting with clear communication and mutual respect leads to far healthier familial bonds.
